Miles, furlongs, yards
British race distance is still spoken in miles, furlongs, and yards — not metres.
- 1 furlong = 220 yards (about 201 m)
- 1 mile = 8 furlongs = 1,760 yards
- Shorter Flat races often run from about 5f to 1m; longer Flat and jump races stretch into miles
On cards you will see forms like 7f, 1m 2f, or 2m 158y. Our tools convert exported decimal-furlong figures into that readable shape.
